The weather is hopefully going to be changing here in Ohio soon. I’m looking forward to it. I’m ready for the cooler temperatures, the cozy warm clothes (especially monochrome blazers!), the early nightfall, the leaves changing colors. I really love this time of year! Another thing I love about this time of year is that my mind always travels back to quilting. Each year, as the days get shorter and the temperatures get cooler, I find myself yearning to play with my fabric and sewing machine again. This year is no different. If anything the desire is hitting me earlier than usual. I’m so ready to jump into a new quilt project!
Unfortunately, my sewing room is a complete and utter mess. I need to spend hours organizing everything. I’ve allowed items that need reviewed here on A Life Full of Laughter to take over the space. That means there are lots of great posts coming up but yet it also means I can’t even find my sewing machine right now. Ugh!
I also need to spend a great deal of time sorting through my fabric. I have way too much. Way more than I’ll ever use in my lifetime, let alone the fact that new fabric enters the house pretty regularly. My plan is to sort through each and every bin or tote. I’ll make harsh decisions on which fabrics I’ll use and which should be donated. I’m blessed to have two different organizations to donate my fabric to where I know they will be put to good use. The problem, of course, is making myself actually let go of some of it.
After I’ve sorted through everything, I’m thinking that I’ll take the plunge on something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. Let me back up just a little….I love working with precut fabrics. Do you know what I mean? Things like fat quarters, jelly rolls, charm packs, and layer cakes. They are so usable and convenient! I’m thinking of cutting the fabric I decide to keep into these precut sizes.
I know that eventually I may run into a piece that I wished I had more of, or that I wish I hadn’t cut into smaller sizes, and I’m okay with that. In general I think that I’ll love the convenience and ease of having things cut into usable sizes. Plus the storage will be lots easier too.
So, have any of you ever contemplated something like this? I’d love to hear your opinions!
Bye,
Lisa

Well, I’m a yarn junkie and I have TONS of yarn and TONS of project so I understand all about getting everything organized and then trying to decide what project you want to embark upon next. My daughter now lives in Ohio and I loved the cool days there a couple of weeks ago already; it was a much needed break from the heat of Louisiana…
I have always wanted to quilt, but never had anyone around who could teach me or encourage me. While B is still young, I probably won’t start, but maybe as he gets older.

I love the pre-cuts, too, but, can’t bring myself to cut my own fabric into them!
I do, however, think it is a wonderful way to organize. And, I would gladly accept donations
Glad you are getting back into the crazy life of a crafter.
Have fun while you organize and decide on your next project! Hugs
I guess, maybe, I just enjoy going to the quilt shops to pick out new products WAY too much
One of these days I am going to learn to quilt. Once we move to a larger place I am hoping to have the room to start crafting again. I really miss it.
