Well, I have a couple new knitting obsessions. I tend to have a very addictive personality and this is no different. About two weeks ago, or so, I decided that I really wanted to learn how to knit socks. I’ve actually always wanted to but have thought it would be too hard. I finally decided to take the leap & found some really great videos to help me. They are called Kelley’s Sock Knitting Class & are just amazing! She goes step by step through everything & you can pause/rewind as many times as you need to.
I decided to start out with worsted weight yarn so that I could learn the steps with a “learning sock”. It wasn’t so hard after all & I really don’t know why I waited all these years to try it. I’ve now started a new pair, the real pair, with sock yarn & smaller needles. I’m doing cuff down, magic loop socks and am really enjoying it. Here is a picture of my completed “learning sock”….
Then, today, a friend from Facebook, Melissa from Life Gets in the Way of my Knitting, introduced me to the Beekeeper’s Quilt pattern, which she started a few months ago. Oh my goodness….have you heard of this? It’s absolutely awesome and looks like so much fun! You make small, stuffed shapes called hexipuffs & then eventually sew them all together to make a blanket. Here are a couple pictures from the pattern…
Aren’t they great?!? I’m so excited to have these new projects to learn about. Of course, being so new to sock knitting I don’t have much fingering or sport weight yarn. I’m hoping to find some various sources of yarn at reasonable (or free!) prices. The awesome thing about the Beekeeper’s Quilt is that I don’t need much yarn to complete one hexipuff – only about 15 yards! That means scraps will work just fine.
Do any of you knit socks? Are any of you working on a Beekeeper’s Quilt? I’d love any tips or advice you have about either project. Being a beginner, I’m looking for lots of help!
